Epic novels give you bang for your buvck, but they really don’t help pad the old review blog. Thankfully, I also have novellas that are included with my Audible membership to inflate those numbers that matter to literally no-one but me.

A slow month of reading, although I did manage to get through an actual book (well, an ebook.) I’m working my way through Samantha Shannon’s A Day of Fallen Night, which is about a day and a half of solid listening and has used all of my audiobook time this month.

As part of my attempt to keep up with my media consumption a little better this year, this is the first regular monthly Book Nook review. I managed two books this month, which is, yes, rubbish, but hopefully I can use this series as an impetus to do better.

Book Nook – 2023

Okay, that’s TV down; time for the review of my reading material for the year. Honestly, this should be easier, because I’m still struggling to find reading time around parenting and housework and work work.

I make my total for the year a disappointing 11 books, not counting re-reads (or re-listens, which tend to be my go-to for sleep background, and have included several Terry Pratchetts – I’m collecting the new audiobook versions – the complete Sherlock Holmes, a substantial Lovecraft collection, and The Silmarillion; turns out there’s very little that’s more hypnotic than Andy Serkis reading elven lineages.)
