Doctor Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch), sorcerer, dreams of a girl with the power to cross universes being guided and betrayed by a version of himself. When a monster attacks near the wedding of his former colleague and criminally underdeveloped love interest Christine Palmer (McAdams), he comes to the aid of the girl, America Chavez (Gomez), along with the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong (Wong). On learning that the beast was summoned with witchcraft, he approaches Wanda Maximov (Olsen), only to discover that she, embracing her identity as a Scarlet Witch and corrupted by the grimoire known as the Darkhold and its promise to restore the family she once magically created for herself, summoned the beast so that she could use America’s power to abduct versions of her children from another universe.
